The D.C. region has been inundated by snow, sleet and rain, shutting down area airports, rail service and Metrobus. But while the federal government and local schools are closed for the day, there are still some going in to work.
WAMU 88.5 Morning Edition host Matt McCleskey grabbed his poles and cross-country skied to work from his home in Northwest D.C. at 4 a.m. on Thursday morning, and he captured the ride on video.
He says it’s probably the first time since he’s lived close to the station that conditions actually made it worthwhile.
“I tried it just once before and there wasn’t enough accumulation that time,” McCleskey says. “You also have to have enough snow to be able to make it back home.”
While the roads are slowly being cleared on Thursday as the D.C. snow crews work their way outward from the main thoroughfares, the streets were totally empty when McCleskey hit the road.
